Community engagement

The Accessible Canada Act and accessibility legislation across provinces require organizations to consult with disabled people. But even organizations with a good track record for community consultation may not have the knowledge and practices needed to create a welcoming and psychologically safe space for disabled community members.

We create high-trust engagements by involving professionals with lived experience in every stage of the project, from session design to delivery. Our approach ensures that participants have the accessibility services and channels they need to participate fully in the engagement. Then we help translate their feedback into operationally relevant, meaningful action.

Our community engagement services include:

  • Barrier identification sessions with internal and external audiences
  • Design and setup of accessibility committees, disability-focused employee resource groups, and broader community consultations
  • Expert-level feedback centering the lived experience of disability via our accessibility think tanks
  • Collecting input on large-scale projects, such as organizational strategic plans, ensuring that all voices have the opportunity to contribute

Here’s what to expect:

  • We work with you to identify your priorities, key outcomes, and any outputs you need from the engagement.
  • We recruit participants, ensuring that a diversity of disabled voices is present and heard.
  • We facilitate the engagement, ensuring that participants’ accessibility needs are met. Facilitation is led by team members with lived experience of disability.
  • We capture what we heard in the engagement and translate that knowledge, aligning with any requirements discussed earlier.
