Introducing our new Foundations of Accessibility e-learning

At Untapped Accessibility, we’ve trained over 7,000 people on the foundations of accessibility. Our training sessions have been designed and delivered as in-person and virtual workshops, covering legislative requirements, key terms and concepts, and inclusive language.

In working with over 80 organizations to deliver these sessions, we’ve learned what our clients need to build a strong foundational understanding of accessibility across their teams. We’ve taken these lessons and applied them to a new self-paced e-learning course!

Expanded content

In addition to covering foundational concepts from our existing introductory workshop, the Foundations of Accessibility e-learning covers content from our anti-ableism and accessible service delivery sessions. It also includes a module on intersectionality. The course gives a full picture of accessibility with a practical framework to apply.

With written content, reflection questions, knowledge checks, practice activities, and lots of examples and case studies, the course will help your team members examine accessibility at their own pace.

Designed and tested for accessibility

This course was designed and tested by people with lived experience of disability.

To introduce engagement options into the course, we added an optional narration feature to the stories and case studies. There are also downloadable resources to support the application of key content.

To further improve accessibility, we applied plain language principles to all written content.

In the course testing phase, we worked with Easy Surf to ensure the course was expertly examined by people using different assistive technologies, including voice recognition and screen reader tools. Any issues identified by these testers were removed or addressed to the best of our ability. (Due to limitations with the Articulate Rise 360 course authoring tool, we couldn’t completely remove some barriers. In these cases, we did our best to clearly describe the issue and how to work around it.)
